THANK YOU, RENATE!

Look what I received from the postman today!
My belated birthday present from Renate of Kreativlink!!!!
*jumps around with joy*

Renate was to meet us during our trip in Vienna. She was unfortunately struck with a bad cold, and did not make it. Her phone call on the very Friday (the 18th), made me smile so much. The first time ever, I heard her cold-struck voice. She has the ultimate happy hoppy voice that exactly fits the picture of her bouncy spirit.

I am so lucky to have this pink journal from her, and it adds on as a pretty partner to my dragon journal.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, RENATE!

Monday Moodboard

Today, I woke up feeling so grumpy, and not because it is PMS, but because I had 4 nights of bad sleep. This has to be called a stop soon. I wanted to start the day with smiles and colours.
I will tidy my workspace, and decorate it, to motivate me to move on to work (since the last time I worked was before my trip to Vienna).

On the 1st day of Christmas

The little ones began their dinner.

Christmas for the whole of my 29 years of life in Singapore was a celebration of attending the mass, visiting family and friends, bright bright and I mean really BRIGHT Christmas decorations and huge Christmas figurines at almost all the shopping malls of Singapore, going to parties, or hanging out in pubs with cool live bands, dance, lots of wines & champagnes, loud and gay people crowding everywhere, shopping, to the movies, etc... Of course, my family had been teaching us the true meaning of Christmas, which I see the similarity in everywhere of the world.

When I came to The Netherlands 3 years ago, Christmas here was a great transition for me. It is peaceful, warm and cosy. Everywhere in NL is closed for services. *Bummer*

In anyways for the 3rd time in a row, we spent our Christmas with my parent-in-laws and guess what?! We were greeted by falling flakes of snow!!!
It was a short fall, and then it transformed to raindrops. The temperature went up to a 6 degC. What a pity!

However we enjoyed a white Christmas for a start and had a very filling breakfast.

Noon came, when our other 2 families joined us. Warm greetings with big hugs and kisses, we were glad to see one another again. Chats, wines, soft Christmas music, and of course laughter of children.

The day went through smoothly.
We had our moments of Christmas verses sharing, which was fulfilling, but I did not share mine. :D
Dinner started with the kids at 5pm, where they were served delicious warm soup, chicken and some vegetable. Kirsten was extremely tired @ that time, and had only a bowl of soup.

My parent-in-laws' house was very well done up for the Christmas, and I started going around taking snapshots of the surroundings and captured some nice candid moments.
Here are 4 of the best snapshots I'll like to share with you.

This Christmas tree stands as classic and lovely as ever.
I love the smell of it too!

One of the many fanciful Christmas decoration standing on my in-laws' table.

The sight of this kitchen lamp has never bored me each time I come.
I have to get a shot of it!

...and of course, mommy & dotty posing for the camera.
The little one hung on being awake for the day, and was knocked out 9pm.
She had indeed a fulfilling & stimulating day with her cousins and the family dog she is nervous of.

The Pepper & Cucumber Salad

Yesterday, I spent my Christmas with my in-laws' where everyone gathered together to share the warm and cosy moments together. I was to prepare a vegetable dish, and chose this salad recipe to serve the family yesterday.

The starter, soup, and main dish were of subtle tastes. When my Eastern salad was served together with the main dish, it brought "Pow-Wow" yumyum smiles on my family's faces.

I am glad it was a success and love to share this refreshing and healthy dish with you.

(Suggested for adults only, as the strong tastes of herbs and chilli may be unsuitable for children)
Photo above: Pepper & cucumber salad made for Christmas dinner at my in-laws'.

There are 2 recipes for this eastern dish.
One is the salad recipe, and the other is the recipe for the dressing.

Salad:
Pepper and cucumber salad
(Serves 8)

Ingredients:
1 yellow and 1 red (bell) pepper
half of a cucumber
5 leaves of fresh lettuce
1 bunch of spring onions (scallions)
2 tbsp fresh parsley
2 tbsp fresh mint
2 tbsp fresh coriander (cilantro)
1 cup of crushed herbal croutons
3 tablespoons of olive oil

Method:
1) Slice the peppers and discard the seeds and core.
2) Dice (in small cubes) the cucumber.
3) Remove the pulp and seeds of the tomatoes and dice them.
4) Place them in a large salad bowl.
5) Trim and slice the spring onions, and add them to the cucumber, tomato and pepper.
6) Finely chop the parsley, mint and coriander and add to the bowl.
7) Pour the olive oil over the salad and mix.
8) Cut the lettuce leaves into small pieces and spread it on your salad plate.
9) Put the salad on the lettuce leaves.
10) Sprinkle with crushed herbal croutons.
*To make this eastern salad in the traditional way, you can replace the croutons with toasted pitta breads. Crush them in your hand and then sprinkle over the salad before serving.
*********
Salad dressing:
Creme Fraiche Dressing with Spring Onions
(Serves 8)
Ingredients:
350ml creme fraiche
1 bunch spring onions
1 or 2 tablespoons of chilli sauce (amount is to your preference of spiciness)
1 lime
Salt
Ground black pepper
*Optional: milk
1) Finely chop the spring onions (scallions) and stir into the creme fraiche.
2) Add the chilli sauce, squeeze of lime juice and season to taste with salt and ground black pepper and mix.
3) *Optional: If you think the dressing is too thick, add a little milk to make it smoother.
4) Garnish with a mint, parsley or coriander leaf.
Serve this as a starter or with any warm dish.
Suitable for any occasion.
I hope you enjoy this simple herbal and refreshing salad dish!
Merry Christmas!

Das Naturhistoriche Museum in Vienna City (Austria)

I was in amazed and thrilled when I saw the huge range of minerals, crystals, fossils, meteorites, etccccc... collection in Das Naturhistorische Museum Wien (in Vienna city) last Sunday. We spent about 4 hours in there, exploring the huge collection of 20 million pieces of natural resources and monuments.

The minerals caught my attention, especially with the formation of the colours. What a great job nature does with colour harmonies!
Here are some of the many pictures I took to share with you, probably you might like to use some of them as your inspiration for your creative work. :)
I think I will start painting one of them, and I have made my pick.

(Click on the pictures, and they will link to the pics in my Flickr.)

(Above) The sweet pinks and bright oranges.

(Above) The earthy coloured ones.

(Above) The charismatic greens.

(Above) The serenity of blues.

(Above) The classical neutrals.
Which ones do you like?

Playing in the Snow

WE ARE BACK!
:) :)

My hubby and I are back from our romantic trip to Vienna. In a few days, I will post the photos of our trip after editing and captioning them. Took about 200+ pics. It was fun and memorable experience. My meet-up day with Baahar and Vadjutka were great! We had lots of fun shopping, chatting and touring.

Here are some pics of my presents and moments today.

(Below) The Gifts:

When I opened my letterbox, I saw 2 envelops and lots of lovely xmas cards. The 2 envelops contained the gifts from Evihan and Heartshapedcreations.

Bottom row from left: Gifts from Baahar, Vadjutka, Evihan and Heartshapedcreations.

(Below) The Snow Fun Today:

This morning, Kirsten and I got dressed for the fun in the snow! The temperature was 1.5C and we started making Mr. Sneuwpop. Kirsten enjoyed herself very much and we were in the snow for 45 minutes.

How adorable she is, and today, she posed in the huge patch of white cotton-like snow, did I realise she is so little!

On Holiday!

Image designed by Swiedebie
Copyright 2009 Swiedebie. All rights reserved.

Been quite a little hectic today... I have been cleaning the house, packing the clothes, making sure my daughter has all her essential needs brought to her grandies for her 4 nights stay at their house. Why all these hassles? It is because hubby and I are going on vacation to Vienna, Austria starting tomorrow. Excited and nervous at the same time for now, which means something good.

My birthday is this Friday the 18th, and we are meeting the girls from the Etsy EST team - Kreativlink, Vadjutka and Baahar. :) It is planned to be a day of fun acquaintance, good tour, and happy shopping!

As of the temperature there, let's not mention it.
I am not a fan of winter... Am prepared to wrap myself up as round as a ball.
However, I am looking forward to having nice walks with my friends and some other romantic days with my hubby alone through the city.

Here, I wish you all good days ahead, and I will come back with nice photos of my trip!

Oh oh! Wait...! One announcement, my website and etsy shop will remain open while I am away, and if you make your purchase, please be patient and wait for my return on the 22nd Dec, which I will post them within 24 hours from then.

:)

Simple Gift Bag (with No Side Depths) Tutorial

Just a while ago, Marta from Martice asked me to make a tutorial out of the gift bags I made for the last fair in Amsterdam.
I learnt this from the days I worked in boutiques and as we had to make lots of gift bags, we were taught to use only foldings and scotch tapes to whip up as many bags as possible within a short time.
The steps only require folding and sealing the bag up (no cutting required).
Here is my quick and easy way to make a gift bag.:)

Here's what you need:
1. A nice wrapping paper or any printed paper in A4 size.
(Sometimes, I use magazine papers)
2. Scotch-tape and glue
In landscape layout, fold both sides of the paper to the center.

Seal it with scotch-tape or with glue to your preference.
If you are going to mass-produce this for your fair, scotch-tape is more advisable to use than glue.
Fold the bottom of the bag approximately 5cm upwards.
Open the fold, and make 2 triangle folds on each side.
Fold a flap up, making sure you exceed about 2mm beyond the triangles' middle line.
Do the same to the flap above by folding downwards.
With a glue stick, smear the glue on the 4 small triangles only.
Fold the bottom flap, and seal it with a tiny scotchtape or glue.
For me, I stamp the front of the bag with my label.

Optional: You can use a huge hole punch to make a hole for your ribbons.
Here is the completed look.
I hope you like my simple tutorial, and hope to see your works with it.

The Funky Fair in Amsterdam

This photo is credited to Marta of Martice.
Thank you, girl!
I could not find my camera anywhere in the bag, only to realise I left it home.

Yesterday was a great experience I had in the Funky Xmas Market/Fair in Amsterdam's Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek.
The kids, my hubby and I woke up 7.30am to get ourselves ready, and off we went to the old fabriek (factory) in Amsterdam. The boys are Kirsten were very enthusiastic about the event and they were very helpful in carrying my loads of stuffs into the building.
When Marta of Martice came, we began setting up our booth together. We had a good introduction and communication between one another. It was a good experience sharing the booth with Marta. I must say, I am impressed by the way she can chat without looking at what she knits. Cool! We had good chats, we helped one another with clients, and most of all, we had lots of fun doing this fair together.

The crowd began pouring in the building at about 12.30pm. It was immensely crowded. Our booth is pinky pink (I am the culprit), and drew many shoppers' attention.
It was a good experience, and to know more about the buying patterns of the Amsterdamishes and tourists. My sales talk was spoken/interacted mainly in English and despite my handicap in Dutch language, I tried to speak a little basic Dutch especially to the kids (cos they do not speak English very well). In this manner, I learnt to be brave about my handicap, and some clients appreciated that. **whew**
I am glad I sold some small items and a few sock monsters, to make enough to cover my cheap hotel room's rent in Vienna this weekend.

My Secret Santa Present Is ...

... Here!
This is a Christmas swap game, called Secret Santa, which played by the members of the European Street Team. Mitsy from Artmind is the organiser and leader, and she did all the wonderful matches for everyone who participates.
The doorbell rang, and there stood Mr. postman with a box in his hand. He did not ask me to sign anything, but just gave me the box with a big smile on his face. I saw the sender's name on it, and I am so thrilled with excitement and was bounding around the house with leaps of joy.
I received my Secret Santa's present from Frances of EnchantedPond.
I ammmmm soooo lucky!!! She is one of my favourite EST members whom I love and dream of owning one of her superb works.

I got miniature framed Mr Snowman with his hot red scarf and eyes! Very sexy! :D
My hubby will be very happy to see this, cos of the twigs she used for the frame. Very very natural!

Thank you very much, Frances!
XOXO!

To Strive Towards The Goal!

Somethings simple and happy for me to look forward to during this cold month.
I got this made and printed out BIG... and pasted it on my desk.
The big one, I know is almost hard to do this month as I am very busy with fair, trip to Vienna, Christmas and New Year parties.
This big one is - To strategically plan on how to increase revenue on and off-line for 2010, with new shop coming up, which I shall plan during my quiet trip in Vienna.

I have never accomplished them much, as I was always either breaking away from doing other things indoors and outdoors.

Heehee...there are a lot more goals (including personal ones too) this month actually, which I am sure they are almost impossible to achieve all, if I write so many down.
So, it's easier to keep this on the simple and accomplishable level.
;)
Personal goals:
- call my family back in Singapore at least once a week
- learn to bake well!
- clean up the messy gardens
- challenge myself to drive 2 hours to the other end of The Netherlands
- learn to swim with clothes on (i think i will drown)
- train on drinking beer without going red

Sinterklaas Day!

Sinterklaas day was on 5th December. It is a celebration of Saint Nicolas's birthday. Kirsten and her classmates were constantly exposed and introduced to this fun affair.
For days, they made collages, paintings, sang many of his songs and danced merrily everywhere they went.
Home Kirsten came, and she gave me her collages and said, "Mama, Sinterklaas knows my house now."
Cute!

Her dress up as Zwarte Grietje! :D
Out of much frenzies to buy presents and prepare food for the family on this day, we missed out on buying black face paint for her. Now, she wore this wig and boy, I had a good laugh!
My little girl with a few fine locks, looked very cute with thick black hair.

Here she is... very enthusiastic on the very day of Sinterklaas. Striked poses for the camera, showed me her empty bag which she kept to fill her presents in.

Here she is in my car, cuddling the Kapooshi sock monster I made her.
His name is tear-drop.

She is consoling him. Very sweet moment!

Secret Santa Wants to Know What Makes Me Smile

Mitsy, of Artmind, has a blog post today, about Secret Santa game. This game is played by the EuropeanStreetTeam

There are so many things in life that make me smile. One of the things that makes me smile is when I watch Bollywood romance movies online.
:D I love watching Bollywood movies since I was 14 and passed this contagious liking to my sister, mom and a good friend. The male and female lead casts look almost too perfect for reality and they are mostly heroic in a charismatic way. The storylines in most movies are somewhat in a way morally educational and brings more awareness to the cultures of India.
It is one of the places I love to go before I die. :)

You can see more happy smiley posts from the EuropeanStreetTeam in Mitsy's blog.

My Creative Space Gets in Order

In my previous blog post, I mentioned about my various projects that are straying around my workplace... are now in the process of completion.

I have many ideas, and they just keep pouring out of me. Sometimes, I have no time nor not in the mood to grab my sketchbook and doodle them down. That explains the constant unfinished works laying everywhere, shouting at me to finish them.

Me: Okok... I am coming. You guys will be done up in no time!
Can you make out what I am making here?

Then, I found my herb cabinet un-used. I painted it with pink & lime green acrylic paints, look what it turns out... a great place to showcase my fabric button rings.

Sock Monsters in the Making... Again!

These days I have been making up so many projects that none of them seem to be completed. None!

So, I laid out all of them on my table, stared at them blankly and just smile.

My monsters are the most neglected ones. They have lost arms, eyes, legs, mouth, etc...
So, off to work on them and I managed to pull through today with these two buddies of mine.

Hopefully, I hope to find the time tomorrow to list them online as my in laws are coming for a visit. *excited* :)

This old fella is a worry-wart. He is made for the challenge theme "@ World's End" by this week's challenge winner, Gr8Jewellery. Check out her blog for more interesting European entries.

This little cutsie pie is filled with rice and polyester filling. So she can sit!

Monday Moodboard is Being Blue

Let's say today I started my day with a little blueness. Not a bad thing, but because I woke up from my dream I was in Singapore with my daughter, and the images in there were mostly in crystal blues in round curvy visions.
When I woke up, I saw my husband dressed in his blue business shirt, and my daughter is today wearing blue. Looks like it is going to be a pretty fun blu-ish Monday!

Lately...

It has been a tough battle for my health to adjust to the change of temperature in the season. With the flu outbreak, I am victimised by it.

The past week, I was severely attacked by a bad stomach virus, led me to being so lagged behind with my work. Another assumption that I recovered from it last Thursday, I was enthusiastic to be on the roll to go back to work on my crafting business... who knows what came next.

On Friday, my body began to break down. My head spun like a cotton candy machine, my body began to ache severely like heavy electrical currents are sizzling my bones, my throat felt as rough as sandpaper, and my nose is as blocked as a blocked waterpipe. Yeah, it is very very bad for me. The virus did its work on me and it succeeded.

The weekend was not a smoothsailing one for a sick cat like me. I was trying to be in control of myself not to be grumpy. It worked! 2 litres of water drank, fruits taken, bowels cleared, and think these will help my recovery to speed up. Today, it did not go well still... I began to feel frustrated about it. My work is so delayed. I have so many ideas in me, but I cannot sit on my work-desk for more than 15 minutes with the heavy grogginess present.
I hate to be sick...

Plushies Invasion in My Creative Space

Let's see... 7 days ago, I was down with stomach virus, which seemed to drain my physical energy away from doing all my plushies. Now that I am recovered (eager to take my hot and spicy food again), you can see all the burst of ideas coming outta my head! My creative space today is invaded by monster plushies!!!

The mess, as usual...
These babies of mine are coming out in their good forms.
I spent 4 hours last night sketching, drafting, and cutting.
This morning, I start joining them up in pieces.

These little Japanese fabric coin purses are ready to be on the roll for sale soon!
Target is to make 10 of them, but I have only 2 hands and 1 me, so shall do it slowly...

I thought I was about to be down with the flu, since the day my stomach pain came, so I put Sneezy on my desk to remind me that the flu may come, and I have to take action to prevent it - which means to consume more fruits and water, and lots of rest.
Hey! It didnt come!!

Weeks ago, I asked my Europeanstreetteam members about how to organise ribbons.
and KajaDesign suggested rolling them on cardboards. Very good idea, and guess what... Organise for a day + chaos the next = Organised Chaos.
:)

Bag=Hat!

My little girl has 4 winter hats, which are given by friends last year, and they do not fit her growing head anymore. She is a little disappointed as her friends have pretty hats on them when they are in school.

This morning, she opened her "Hello Kitty" bag and slipped it on, & said to me, "Mama, nice hat for school!" Her cute act made me laugh, and indeed was a smart fashion move!

That means it is time for a winter hat shopping for this little one.

My New Pincushion Rings and Giant Button Rings

Lately, I have been up with so many projects to work on for my coming fairs and updates.
Fabric buttons in ring forms, giant buttons on rings, and then I made my mini-cakes & mushroom in ring form. These felt cupcakes are actually pincushions where you wear on your finger. Compact and cute, convenient to carry around. Besides I recycle bottle caps for their bases, so no worries...you will not get holes on your fingers.
They are still in the process of making, and will publish them online in my website and etsy shop for sale soon.

My Baby is Here!

What an adventure we have starting with our car searching for 4 days on the internet. We wanted to have almost everything basic with the car to go well and proper before it starts to run for me...
I started to fall in love with a Suzuki Swift, which is sold, and then followed by a Renault Clio, which is also sold. We then narrowed down to Fiat Cinquecento 900 S, which we drove an hour drive to Zeewolde to get her. She is a cutie pie, with every basic needs I want. Now... one challenge I faced is to drive back alone in the car (behind my hubby's car) - another hour back home with heavy traffic and pouring rain.
Of course I have to admit there were a few hiccups along the way, and I was so glad I survived. It runs with a small engine and the start up is different from the Mercedes I drove during my lessons. The car shut down on me 4x on the road. How embarrassing. Each time I come to stop @ a red light, my nerves got tensed up and hoping my feet would coordinate well to get it started. It took me nearly 45 minutes to get used to it.
Now, good luck to me and her for our future adventures together.
She must have a name... I wonder...
(Any ideas?)

She looks so mini parked between 2 huge vehicles.

My Creative Space is Covered with Dots!

Today, I will like to show you my creative workspace. Threads are all over the place, and I place them back into their tin-boxes (which I use tea-boxes to store them) just for this photoshoot.

I am making new apples and purses for my shop, which I think I will make lots of them to list at one go.

My work corner is getting a little crowded, or should I say... clustered

New supplies of fabrics came in today, a total of 20 metres.
Ready to be on the roll to make more new stuffs with them.

You can check out other creative spaces in Kootoyoo's blog. :)
